Just recently, The Wombats finished up their North American headlining tour in support of their hit full-length, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE. Though the tour was only a few weeks long, the band had seen (and conquered) every major city they played in. We got to see them in action on their stop in New Haven, CT, at College Street Music Hall as they finished up their last stretch of the tour. With Barns Courtney as the supporting act, it was definitely a perfect match. He had everyone swooning from the moment he stepped foot on stage, with his undeniable star power, sensual dance moves, and eclectically on-point fashion. He successfully amped up the crowd with his classic rock vibes, preparing the sea of fans for The Wombats to take over.

As if we could expect anything less, The Wombats gave a stellar performance packed with a bright and colorful production, a solid sound, and tons of dancing. Since this tour was in support of BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE, it only made sense for a good amount of their setl ist to be hits off the album, including opening song and album starter “Cheetah Tongue”. Other highlights included “Lemon to a Knife Fight”, “I Don’t Know Why I Like You but I Do”, a dreamy stripped-down version of “Lethal Combination”, and of course, their two latest singles, “Turn” and “Bee-Sting”.

To top off the sonic excellence, there was a special energy between the band members and the crowd throughout the entire night. The Wombats made the fans an integral part of their show, singing on the edge of the stage, calling out for their voices, and shining a spotlight to the crowd quite often. It was obvious that their biggest fans made their way to the front few rows that night, as it seemed like the barricade would topple over at any given moment. Between the array of colors glowing during each and every song, how on-point the band was musically, and the unparalleled band-fan harmony, it is safe to say that The Wombats have taken their live shows to a whole new level.

The Wombats will embark on a UK tour to kick off 2019, but don’t worry, fellow North Americans! The band has already proclaimed they can’t wait to see us again “soon.” Fingers crossed!
